Overview

GMOD KitsIn the first part of this lab, the student will take on the role of a genetic counselor working in a hospital or clinic, known as HNPCC. It will be the student’s job to advise patients of the risk for an inherited disorder and to advise them of the consequences of the nature of the disorder. In order to complete the second part of this lab, students will take on the role of a laboratory technician as a DNA-based diagnostic test is carried out to identify which family members have inherited the cancer-causing mutation. In the lab’s conclusion, the students will return to their roles as genetic counselors and advise one of the family members on their test results.
